How to Fix Error - adding second hard drive for old computer?

adding second hard drive for old computer

I have a small hard drive (sata) from a second computer whose Mother board gave up.
My main computer is running windows 7, I have an additional slot for the HD, plenty of power from the power supply and I would like to add the hard drive--so I could get
some data from it.
The HD I would be adding is running windows XP.
What I am envisioning, is connecting the  second HD--accessing it, deleting the windows xp operating system, plus old programs etc and then moving the data I need on to my main HD.
i would probably end up removing thehard from my main computer.
Now as I understand how this may work, the computer would boot using windows 7 on the main HD, assuming the bios is set to boot from that HD in the booting sequence.
Will another HD with windows XP sitting on it cause conflicts?

There is no harm and no conflicts will happen by adding another Hard disk with OS on it.
You may be confused if both the HDD has Windows 7 on it but that is not the case for you.
Considering both HDD connected and boot to windows xp by default, then you know that its booting with Windows xp from the Second HD.
So try to somehow boot into Windows 7 either by changing the jumper settings or interchanging the HDD Slot or BIOS Settings.
Once you boot into Windows 7 you can do the needful.

Computers have lots of memory but no imagination.
The problem with troubleshooting is that trouble shoots back.
